“In fact if you said it out loud in certain circles that you like Himesh’s songs then the reaction was similar to how the internet now looks at Kanwariyas: with disdain and disgust. The only difference is, Himesh fans danced to the beat. Kanwariyas today dance and beat.”

Dying at this. Hahahah. Brilliant stuff, Anurag.

In an era of playback singers, Himesh was indeed a true popstar. You've given me such a thought-foundry to sit with!

In this brain rotten era, reading your articles which are relatable and honest is JOY( not pretending). Looking forward to your articles always. What's funny is himesh's hits playing in my mind while I read 🤌. Jai mata di. Let's rock ! You write what most of us think, and express it in ways that is dope which we can never do. You are right don't know why people hesitated with accepting that they actually like his songs.

The joke was, is and will always be on the haters. Himesh kept going. Did I like him? Nope. Do I like this about him that he kept going? Yep. Excellent piece.

You won't believe but I was literally discussing this with my dad. As a true Lord Himesh fan both ironically and unironically, I always find his character as a performer interesting, the idea of him being associated with "taste" is so funny and true, when I now see people attending his concert and happily talking about it as if they have registered themselves on the train of nostalgia express screaming "bring the early 2000s back". I swear I could have dared to tell someone in school that hey, I don't think Himesh is thatttt bad (when it was just about the music), but the post-cap era filled with movies like Aapka Surroor, Karzzzz, that freaking radio movie 😭, I stopped acknowledging him as a kid. He was truly considered a joke, and his fans were losers.

Now, after seeing the revival of so many things and lordification of people, I truly believe I am old and have seen a full circle. The internet really redefined the meaning of cringe, and today gram is all about performance aur irony ki behti ganga me haath dhona 🤡

You know that constipated feeling when you just can’t put your thoughts or emotions into words, and then you read something that expresses it so perfectly, it’s like a relief from mental indigestion? That’s exactly how I felt after reading your article.
